Employees in the Film, Television, Media & Communications industry can now achieve for free the Diploma of Screen & Media (CUF50107) under the Australian Government Up-Skilling Existing Employees Traineeship Funding initiative through OHS Media Services RTO. How can employees achieve their Diploma of Screen & Media for free?

Moreover, experienced non-vocational accredited workers can achieve their Diploma of Screen & Media (CUF50107) qualification through RPL (recognised prior learning) in recognition of their knowledge & skills developed through their industry experience without having to undertake further formal study.
The program is open to all job roles in the film, television, media & communications industry including production, writing, direction, camera/cinematography, sound, design, broadcasting, technical crew roles (e.g. grips, gaffers, art, props, construction, special effects, armoury, unit) safety/compliance, programming, administration, marketing, management, post production, presenting etc.
Who is eligible?
An existing worker in the film, television, media & communications industry who is an employee that has worked for the employer for more then 3 months full time or 12 months part-time or casual. If they are a freelancer like many in the film & television industry with an ABN they need to have a senior person employed under the same ABN to help with the on-the-job component of the training and sign relevant paperwork; or are paid a regular PAYG wage by a large company. In addition they can not have completed an accredited vocational Certificate or Diploma over the last 6 years.

What is the Diploma of Screen & Media (CUF50107) qualification?
The Diploma of Screen and Media (CUF50107) is a national qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). AQF qualifications are competency-based that are built around a set of competency standards. Competency standards describe what an industry sector expects as effective performance in the workplace. This includes the skills and knowledge needed for employees to do their job in the film, television, screen & media industry. The Diploma of Screen & Media consists of 15 competency units – 5 core and 10 elective with over 80 competency units to select electives from that cover all job roles in the film, television and media industry.
What is the RPL program?
RPL is a perfectly valid and widely used means of allowing people who already have the necessary skills and knowledge required for a qualification to receive that qualification without having to undergo further study. It’s all about recognising existing skills & knowledge and rewarding that with an appropriate national qualification. RPL simply entails gathering evidence of skills and having that evidence assessed.
What are the benefits of the Diploma of Screen & Media qualification?
There are legal requirements for employers to engage competent personnel in the film, television & media industry. While workers may be experienced the only way they can demonstrate competency is through holding formal vocational education & training accreditation. The Diploma of Screen & Media satisfies this requirement. In addition while workers may be experienced there is an ever increasing employment preference for those who hold accreditation. The Diploma of Screen & Media assists with on-going employability in a growing competitive industry.
